regarding shots and reactions

As some of you know Kiwi has a spot where her puppy shot injection site was a scab / loss of hair.... I'm just so worried the hair won't come back..... and with the vet and different articles saying its unlikely to grow back and the damage can get worse I'm paranoid watching Kiwi's for growth! I think it has grown but I am not sure if its me or just me worrying! THe vet did measure it and she's suppose to go back 1st part of DEC. But what can I do to encourage this area to not spread and heal? I don't want her to have a scar not that, that would make me love her less... but I just don't want her to have to have one if possible!! And if it was a shot reaction what am I to do regarding shots in general? I don't want to cause her any harm by having her vaccinated? Can this be a 1x deal or is it something that I have to worry about for the rest of her life? I'll attach some pics for you all to see what I'm talking about...

Brenda that doesn't look like any shot reaction that I have ever seen.  Also the location is mighty low down and far back to be the location of a shot... I think that I would definitely get a second opinion.  Deb

I did....... I went to 2 different vets..
They both said it was plausable that it was a shot reaction (as the breeder stated)

One did a skin scrapping to double check for mange per my request and it was neg.  She did measure it and will be reseen in 3 wks.

The 2nd vet said that with adverse reactions it damages the hair and surrrounding area.

Not to disagree with Deb... but Binks has a bald spot right behind his right front leg.... I need to get you a pic so you can see.  The location of Kiwi's seem to be almost in the same spot as Binks.  But that mark does look a bit odd to me.  Has she been scratching at it??

I think I would get a second opinion too... that seems very strange.

I don't know why they can come up with vacc. that would not do that to our delicate little babies!!!

Binks' scabbed up too a bit and then it healed and fell off.  Just no hair now!   Boots has never had issues with them.  The vet told that they could give the shots in a different place, I said "WHAT???!!  So now he has little bald spots all over him?!??"  No Thanks!!!

Yea it does.  Sorry the pics are so blurry.  Buster had it too in the same spot.  They all went to the same vet... so I guess that explains it.

Just a thought, did you say that Kiwi had this mark when she came to you?  It's not from a shot that she had whilst with you?  If so, how much did you pay for this pup?  How long did you wait?  I'd be asking the breeder some questions, and possibly complaining. Obviously you're going to love Kiwi no matter how she looks or what allergies she has, but I mean, there's no harm in telling the breeder how disapointed and let down you are feeling.  If you paid a big whack of dollars, and I imagine you did, then you should get what you paid for, but if your 'ggods' are damaged you could ask for some money back or something.

I know this sounds horribly harsh and like Kiwi is an object, but in my mind when you pay for something, no mater what it is, you have the right to recieve the item undamaged.  She may also be able to tell you if any other of her dogs have had this problem.  If they have it could be a genetic problem, in which case she shouldn't be breeding.  It's just something to think about.

Yes she got this before she was flown to me but I didn't know about it til like a few days before.... and even then I was told it was a scab... which it was but not its healing and lots of skin.....

I have gone round with this breeder and won't drag all that drama on here but I highly doubt they'd credit me due to this....

Their health agreement (which I didn't see til I received her and I should of asked for prior)

states they don't cover minor health issues..... which I am sure they would count as this would be more cosmetic at this point.....  But I agree with you fully.  I am going to wait to see how this mark heals before I make too much of a fuss.  If it does end up a scar I may ask for something back but again I'm going to wait to see what happens first.....

I am in complete agreeance with Jess... I would try to get some money back from the breeder.  Although it is only cosmetic (hopefully), it is something that you were not told about when you purchased her.

I have heard of chihuahuas having shot reactions to unnecessary vaccines... like lepto and corona virus, but not from the Duramune Max 5 (which is Distemper, adenovirus type 2 (and hepatitis), parainfluenza, and parvovirus).

I hope that you can figure out why she had this shot reaction, or whatever else it could be.  I am so sorry

Surely you have to sign the health agreement?  Have you done that yet?  If not, then it might still be open for disussion.  The only problem I foresee is that if you never went to meet the parents and Kiwi before you paid then the breeder could argue that she was sold as seen, meaning when you picked her up you release the breeder from any future responsibility regarding health problems.  Esentially because you never checked it out it is your problem!  However, it does seem terribly immoral and dishonest to me to do that, and I'd like to think that no breeder would not care about their dogs that much.

If it does turn out to be a long term problem or is a genetic disorder you should probably let the breeder know so that she can stop breeding that particular line.  You could be saving not only the breeder from future touble, but most importantly you could be saving future Chis helath.

It's so horrible, and I am sending you lotd of positive thoughts and wishes that it clears up quickly.

No I never saw her except for emails.  I have emails from him stating she was in perfect health and nothing wrong with her.... which was true til she got this shot.  I have emails too that state should something come up they'd refund and or adjust the price but when she was shipped to me He then sent the health agreement which stated all that other stuff..... so technically I feel he is bound to what he originally said and because the other was given to me AFTER the shot reaction that he is bound to the orig not the later....

but we'll see what happens.  If it heals no harm done but if it leaves a scar then we might have some talking.  For now I'm just hoping it heals and we can go our seperate ways!  This person does show and compete with his dogs so his reputation is also on the line should he pull any crap but I won't jump to conclusions and judge til we have to cross that bridge...

I about killed this one lady, I had taken chico to a shot clinic, *(cause for paws)* Because our vet is terribly overpriced. When she went to give him teh rabies shot, i was holding him, she didnt even look what she was doing. She pulled up the skin around his neck and jabbed the needle in, and all of a sudden my hand is being squirted with rabies vaccination!!!! she had pulled the skin up pierced one side and gon thru the other side, and was squirting me! I was furious! after talking to her  very angerly, and a call to the vet, we found he would be ok with another dose, ( only a 1/4 of the shot got in him.) so they gave him another shot. I was even more Angry that they laughed at me for being freaked about vaccine being all over me! like it would hurt me!! they told be to calm down its just vaccine! I wa soooooooo upset! needless to say we didnt go back to that clinic ever again, and we told our friends not to either!

* they also abotu got their face bit off by our german sheapard, after innoculating trinity the lady grabbed trinty's face and kissed her!!!! my mom had to pull trinity away cause she started to growl. as we were paying trinity stared a hole thru  the lady, and was growling! Not professional people at all!*
