About those Male Hormones ;-)

For those of you with male dogs -

Rufus is only 4 months old, and he's already humping away at his favorite lamb toy. I hope that's normal?

Also, he has a long sort of "feather" on his...ummm... doodle. (Trying to keep it clean here Do any of your dogs have the same thing or is this a long-coat feature? And should it be trimmed at all ? (sometimes he has a bit of a drip problem from it when he pees)

Thanks! Blessings - Lin

Oh the joys of raising little boys!  The little feather is part of the long coated chis charm...Buster has one also.. I have never trimmed his as I am not certain that he would be too crazy about the idea! lol   As for the "hitch in his hips" thing, that is all male chis!  Bandy is using his toys and his brother Spikey if brother isn't fast enough to get out of reach!    Rufus is just in love with his lamb, and that's okay cause it is definitely better than someone's leg...lol  Deb

Radar has never been bad for humping toys. But, he would wait and hump the in-law's dog! That was so humiliating! But, since he's been neutered, we haven't had any humping at all! And, you mentioned the "feather"...Radar is a smooth coat, but I recently noticed that he has a completely bare belly. And, the only hair in that area is on the tip of his "thing" and on what is left of the sack. But, I did notice that he wasnt hairy in those places until he was neutered! I dunno...LoL

Lin, dont worry you're not alone!  And for the record it's not just adolescent boys who hump;  Ellie went though that stage too!    Thankfully she's outgrown it now!  Phew!

This subject makes me laugh so much!!  Sparky was/is in love with his gray squirell.  He is on about the 4th one now - and neutering didn't help at all!  He is just a little humper!  He will "love" on just about anything - but has never done "that" to a person!  Thank goodness.

As for the feather - Sparky is part Yorkie and the only places he has long hairs - you guessed it - one of them is the winkie!  That's how I knew for sure he went potty outside when he was smaller - just checked to see if the "hairs" were wet!!  LOL He does has longer hairs on his chest and down his tummy now - but it took til he was about 18 months for those to develope.

Tucker isn't much for "loving" things.  He has started to go after Sparky though!  He is almost 5 months old and the "jewels" are starting to really drop.  That seems to be the trigger!  I was hoping to wait until after Christmas to do the big N, but that may get moved up a bit.  He will be 6 months on Dec. 15 so he is getting ready!  I don't let him hump Sparky if I catch him at it - is that OK?

Tucker is a long coat and one of the places, other than his ears and tail, that he's starting to get feathering is on the "jewels"  - but he is also starting to grow his pants.  It's so fun to watch his coat come in!  Didn't have this part of puppyhood with Sparky since he took after the short coat Chi (his mommy).

I don't know what it is about chis and their lambs - but since Rufus loves his "girlfriend" so much, we figured we'd better buy a spare, since we saw that PetSmart was still carrying the same model.

Rufus has chewed off her ears and teeth, and I've already sewn up two holes in her. Boy, he's rough on the girls A macho guy, for sure!

Awww, Rufus is growing up

Dogs hump to show dominance... in other words, Rufus is trying to show his lamb that he's the boss

Chuwee is a shortcoat and there isn't anything there that shouldn't be, feather wise.

Now the other part of the question is a big whopping Oh yeah!  Chuwee hit around four months and it was nothing but, Chuwee stop that, leave Zip alone.  Chuwee had a favorite duck that was bigger than he was that was his "friend".  I finally had to toss it out.  Poor Zip though.  She couldn't go anywhere without him trying to grab her tail and hang on for dear life.  We have been trying to teach him to leave her alone.  He has gotten alot better, but still has his moments when he just can't help himself.

Chimi isnt a long coat, but he has the ol' "feathery doodle" too. luckily for me he cleans it all on his own though.

and he humps the stuffing out of this toy fox that i got for him. it's his favorite toy, and it was his first toy he ever got as well. it's sort of like his baby, and that's the only one he humps on. he will definitely be getting neutered in January... but my boyfriend's italian greyhoud/chihuahua mix was neutered 3 years ago and still humps other dogs for dominance!

i find it really amusing, but very rude. LOL.

Houdini has taking a liking to this stuffed pink pig I got him a couple of months ago.  It's too funny.  And of course, his most passionate times are when we have company!!!

Hou is short haired, but also has a bit of a feather, and also does the cleansing of himself... A LOT!  Sheesh.  :)
