Lin, my guys eat their treats so fast that they don't have the time to think about burying them. When Buster was around, he would bury his treat in his bed for a short period of time. Boots would too. But now, neither Boots or Binks does this.
It is so cute when they do that, makes you wonder what is going through their head when they are doing that. Speically when they relocate it to a new spot. Dogs, they sure do make life grand huh???
Lin, two of my seven chis do the "I'll bury this for later" thing! Rio and Bandy, who are my really small guys will bury a treat for later. I always thought it was because they are the ones who can't eat as much as the others, but still want their share like everyone else. Rio who is 10 years old is still only 3 pounds and of course Bandy isn't quite 2 pounds so they have tiny little tummies...Rio will go hide his stuff in my bed between the pillows!!! lol Bandy takes his to his favorite of the dog beds and stuffs it under the pillow in the bed then takes his nose and pushes it down just right... Course with all the pups around here, someone always finds it quite quickly....

Lin, that is too cute for words! I can just picture Rufus doing it! The best bit is that he went back to the first one to move it to somewhere 'safer'!
I once had a Shih Ztu that liked to bury things, but Ellie doesn't seem too keen. She'd prefer to either wolf it down or take one sniff and look up at you as if to say "my lips are too good for that!" x
Chuwee will bury his treats wherever he can if he doesn't finish it. He will bury them in the toy box he has, the bed he has in the livingroom. He will get on the couch and bury them in the blankets we have on the couch or behind the pillows. Last week I took the bed he has in our bedroom apart to wash it. I found three bones he had buried under the pillows and blanket he had in there. He uses his nose as well like others have said. The funny this for us is that Zip has figured out he buries treasures and will watch and wait til his back is turned and then go and get them. Chuwee is now on hyper alert when he buries his bones. He will watch her, and if she gets too close to his treasure, he runs back over to it and stands guard...lol
Koapaka will bury his treats all the time. Usually under his blanket. Sometimes he does with with his favorite toys. He has a soft ball that is tattered and torn, and heaven help us if we lose it. It is the first thing in his mouth when company comes because he wants to play. We call it "Spidy ball" because it has Spiderman on it. One day we could not find the ball. We searched ALL day for it because he was looking for it also. FINALLY, my DH found it in a basket of clothes in my bedroom. He hid it under the clothes. We bought the exact same ball for him and he will not play with it. He wants "old" Spidy ball.
Radar doesnt seem to bury things. When he gets a DentaStix or a Chew-eez, he will either chew it right then and there or he'll take it to his crate and leave it there where he can find it.
Biscuit is a burier...he always burys things up on my bed, under all the blankets. i figured its so joey doesnt find them. Biscuit can jump up on the beds, but joey cant, so when biscuit wants to get away or hide somethng, he jumps up high. Actually just last night i went to bed, then rolled over on to a milk bone!
The girlies 'INHALE' their treats. I try to give them out in order of age. But Coco is always trying to get in there first. No patience or respect I tell ya. My lil piggies.
I'm glad to know Rufus isn't strange in his burying habit
As to the booda bones, they aren't cookies or biscuits. They are large boned shaped treats made of out veggie starch or something like that, sort of like greenies or nylabones. They are edible, but take lots of licking and chewing before they wear down. Rufus has had these for about 2 weeks and they are just about done for. He's teething and I guess they feel really good to him.
Now yes, with the cookies or biscuits, they are wolfed down pretty quick. NO chance to bury them!
Sparky is my "burier". But only certain things. He has always done this - even before his brother joined the family. He will also walk around with the really good ones in his mouth and make his whining sound - really sounds pathetic - and then he'll poke his nose into a bed, or behind the pillows on the couch and if it isn't the right place to hide the treat, then he walks around whining somemore. Sometimes the treat actually falls apart and he is forced to eat it because he's taken so long finding the best hiding spot. Tucker usually just stands there and watches him and then he looks at me like "he's nuts mom!" Tucker eats any treat at lightening speed! his dinner too. Then he stands and watches Sparky hoping that there will be leftovers for him to eat! Such a little pig for a tiny guy! His favorite place to hide his treasures is under our bed. Usually the treasure is a stick or something like that from the yard. He is loving it that he can use the doggy door to get outside on his own and go searching for that special stick! I almost always come home to find leaves and little pieces of sticks all over the living room! He's had a really fun day!
Well, Chico doesn’t exactly 'burry' but he does 'work the system' with 5 sisters and a big brother, he is 6 pounds lighter than his smallest sis. SO he has to work hard to keep his treat. ( though he gets vicious, thinking he’s the size of his 90ln collie brother, LOL) when we go out side to hand out treats, he will run off with his, put it in a space only he see, come back fop another go put it down, come back. then he will run over to his stash, and eat leisurely, tormenting the other dogs, and snarling should they get too close!
Houdini does sometimes, and I didn't realize this until I found a hiding spot one day. I guess he's afraid that if he doesn't take the treat while I'm handing it out, he may not get one!!
My boyfriend has an Italian Greyhound/Chi mix that does this with every treat he gets. Unfortunately, Chimi finds them and gets them! Gringo gets really really mad and tries to take them back, but Chimi plants his body over them and wont let him have them. LOL.
Oh yes...all three of my dogs will do that occasionally. My Westie will bury a bone in the corner of the room. Actually, just place the bone in the corner and then proceed to move with her head like she is covering it with something. Too cute.... :)
