The breeder I got Ellie from told me she only had one Chi (out of thirty!) that would fetch a toy when thrown. Ellie fetches things all the time; in fact it's one of her favourite games! Does anyone else's Chi fetch, or is it truly a rareity in the breed?
Jess, it's rare here... Out of 7 I only have one, Buster, who will fetch and bring the toy back to you... The others run to get them, but "ain't" gonna give it back! lol

Hey Jess, yep, both Boots and Binks likes to play fetch. Binks likes to out run Boots and nab the toy before he does. On occasion Boots will get it before Binks and then tug-o-toy ensues. Binks could play all day if I let him.
Binks and I have a side game... where I throw the toy, he runs to get it, and then I hide while he is getting the toy. He LOVES this game. But he is too quick for me and usually sees me running off comes after me. I love playing games with the kids.
I never tried to train my chis to fetch but one day at work I called my husband who was at home on the couch and he says "I keep throwing this little ball off the couch and Bella keeps bringing it back" I was OMG...I didn't know she would do that. Beni also started to fetch the ball and bring it back but when I am outside and I throw the ball they run after it and get it but they don't bring it back.
Rufus loves to play fetch. We throw a toy and say "get it" and once he picks it up we say "bring it" and he brings it back to us - most of the time! Sometimes he just holds on to it and runs away. He thinks he's being clever But he only gets a treat if he brings it back to us.
I haven't tried the hiding game - I'll have to add that one of these days. Sounds like fun!
Sassy and Hershey both fetch, Jax doesn't. Usually Sassy and Hershey will bring the toy back to me, sometimes they don't though. Sassy will fetch as long as you keep throwing. LOL!
I definately know that our five year old yellow lab Piper LOVES to fetch!!! The four chi's love to chase her while she is fetching. It is quite hillarious.
Bella loves to play I fetch. I got her some tiny tennis balls from pet smart and they are perfect for her. I through it, she gets it I say bring it back she does and i say drop it and she does. She will do it till she pants then it is to the water dish and time to take nap...on me of course!!
Joey LOVES to fetch! All the time and he would go on for hours! Biscuit has never gotten the concept!! He will chase me with a ball, but if i throw the ball, he just watches it!
Chuwee LOVES to play fetch. As long as you toss something, he will fetch it. If it is he squeeky toy, even better because he loves to make noise while he is running back with it.
Radar understands the concept, but he refuses to give the toy back to us. He'll usually run by us really fast trying to get to his crate with it. We sorta have to grab him as he runs by.
Even in the summer when it's hot (hot for us Brits anyway!) Ellie will still be begging to play fetch while it's all I can do to lie on a towel and sweat!
Dogs are unconditional LOVE!
But he only gets a treat if he brings it back to us.
