Actually had the camera when Ethel came out of the nest and before Fred went in to sit for her. So we have a pic inside the nest and some of Mom and Dad wondering what the heck I'm doing!!

Oh wow! What beautiful eggs! I know they're only eggs right now, but I mean they are lovely, aren't they? Mummy and Daddy are handsome little things, I love Finches, they're so cute! I've always wanted a pair of Love Birds. Some day maybe...
That is soooo cool Deb... the miracle of life, often taken for granted, and the opportunities to witness the gift God has given us is so few! Thanks for sharing.
Wow, they are gorgeous little birds you have!! Congrats on your new eggs and cages. I bet you can't wait to see them when they hatch. They will be so tiny!
My lovebirds just laid four eggs this week. This is the second clutch for them. The first one didn't hatch. I was very confused as to her laying more eggs. I don't want more birds, and I spoke to a lady here that breeds birds. She told me to take the nest box or anything else out of their cages that they can nest in/on. That will stop them from nesting. Well, it worked until last week when she just laid her eggs on the bottom grill of the cage. I was worried about her sitting there on the grill so long, it must be hard on her feet and legs. So I moved the eggs into a wide water dish with some nesting material in it. At this point, I don't know what else to do with them. I really don't want any more birds, but the lady that owns the bird shop said she would take them if they hatched. So we are now at a wait and see if they do actually hatch.
Well Newf we are the bird ladies of the site, huh? What type love birds ; peach face, black masked, blue masked, etc.? Shame we don't live close to each other as I would love to have a couple of baby love birds if they hatch Can you post a photo of your pair? Thanks, Deb

I have a peachfaced blue pied male, and a green violet peachfaced female. I did have four lovies at one time, but I gave another pair I had to a little old couple that just lost their birds. The two pairs didn't get along at all, so it was best to find a home for the one pair.
Here are pics of my two lovies. The first one is Tweety. Very original I know..lol. But that is all he does all day long..tweet tweet...sheesh...lol The second one we thought was a male until HE laid eggs. Hubby had named her Mr. Green, so now its Mrs. Green. I brought Tweety home from a bad environment at a petstore. I don't make it a rule to do that, but he really needed to get out of that place. Mrs. Green we brought home from a petstore after I saw a kid trying to burn her eyes with one of those laser pointers business men use. I was so angry at that kid that before I knew what I was doing, I was over there lecturing him on how to treat animals and such. He was about ten years old. Parents no where around. I informed the staff at the store, and they said that this kid has been doing stuff like that for awhile, and each time they kick them out. I said you really need to bannish him from the store. Obviously he doesn't get the message. Anyways, so that is the story about the lovies...:) And it is just my luck they are male and female...lol
Aww Newf they are so pretty... Sounds like they were both very lucky that you found them when you did... Let me know the outcome of the eggs... I sure do hope mine hatch. Fred and Ethel are very diligent about sitting on the nest, so I'm hopeful.
Many years ago, back in the late 70s to 80, I had avairies and raised birds. Also had a lot of pet birds. This is when I was married to my ex and before my son was born. Pets we had were: Scarlet macaw, blue and gold macaw, Mollucan ****atoo, Speckaled amazon, and a ****atiel. Breeders were: finches, lovebirds, Quaker or Monk parakeets, Sulphur crested ****atoos, Temnay African greys, and ****atiels. It was a lot of work and expense, but the big birds are really smart pets. The Mollucan was my favorite. He was a great talker...Deb

Wow, you are just the person I have a question for then about lovies. Did you have a hard time getting yours to eat veggies and such? Mine will NOT eat any of it. I have tried and tried to get them to eat fruits and veggies. All they end up doing is letting it rot in the cage. Do you have any tricks for getting them to eat that kind of food? I sure would appreciate any help. I am kinda worried about Mrs. Green not getting all the vitamins and minerals she needs now that she is laying eggs. I give them food that had egg in it, but I am at a loss as to how to get them to eat anything but the regular food.
I would love to get a Sun Conure someday. Hubby and I just love the colors on them. But we would need a bigger house for any more animals..lol I almost got a Lory before Chuwee came along. I think they are fascinating birds.
Newf, Put some molassos or honey on the fruit, that will usually work...Add vitamins to their water daily. While laying, pick up some Birdie Egg Biscuits and crumble them up for them to eat. Sun conures are beautiful, don't blame you for wanting one at all!! Deb

Ok, I am gettin giddy with excitement!!!!! Little baby chicks!!!!! Um, finches!
Newf..... I know what you mean about the colors.... I have the same problem with my fish photos, they never look as good in the photo as they do in real life!
newf ~ My Mullacun 'Too didn't seem to eat much of the food I was giving him. So I put every fruit in the world in one bowl, and every veggie in another. I wrote down all the names of the fruits and veggies, and later checked off which ones were missing. Now I know what he likes, and I only buy those.
He also likes whole wheat toast with a very light spread of peanut butter. I swear, it's like having a little kid. He even has his own five disc DVR so he can watch his cartoons ~ LOL
lol..that is funny about the dvd. Although the dogs enjoy watching animal planet with me, so why should birds be any different.
I was thinking, is there much of a difference between dried fruit and fresh? They seem to like the dried better. I am assuming it would be the same vitamins etc in both. Anyone have any thoughts on that I would appreciate it.
