Ok, we are on vacation and on the second floor of a motel. I take the kids out to take care of business.
Binks has never been on a leash, but he did extremely well with very few side effects. But there was this one episode, and when I think about it now, it scared me and then I giggle about it. Ok, on with already! (Try to picture this in your head.)
So I takes Binks out of his retracto leash... you guys know what I am talking about, we were returning from our walk and Binks goes under the stair case instead of up the stairs. He goes far enough to pull the full length of the cord out and I drop the leash casing. (You guys got this pictured in your head???) The leash casing starts to retract (towards Binks) and he freaks!!!! In Binks' head, this purple retracto leash thing is attacking him!!! He is running across the parking lot, looking back at this purple thing chasing him, and growling and barking. For those of you that ever had a Mac pc, do you remember the Bad Dog screen saver? Well that is pretty much what Binks looked like.
The leash got stuck under a car tire and poor little Binks was traumatized, and stuck! He was really wigged out, but not hurt.
It really scared me because I was afraid he would get hit by a car running around like that in the parking lot. He was not paying attention to anything except the leash thingy. And just the worry of him getting hurt in general from the whole ordeal.
Things I learned????? Wellllll, hold on to that leash!!!!!! And, if you are using the retracto thing, don't give them so much leeway. If I would have kept him closer to me instead of letting him roam, then this whole episode could have been avoided. Oh, and just because your dog is on a leash, does not mean he is safe! They are safer, but always be alert and mindful of their surroundings.
But I can't help and giggle when I replay that scene in my mind, to have been there and seen it.................. priceless!!!!
That poor, poor baby!! He must have been scared half to death... What was Boots doing while you were running after Binks in the parking lot??? Does Binks run when you start toward him with that purple monster???? He needed lots of kisses to overcome that experience!! Deb

Poor Binks.... Attacked that way! Bless him! I know he was scared, but you're right. You can't help but laugh a little when thinking about it! I have the retractable leash as well. We don't often go out where I use it, but when I do, I'll keep a good grasp on it, for sure! Yeah, that probably really would be scary for a 'lil dog.
Boots stood by while I went and rescued Binks. Which was a good thing, cuz I had my hands full! Binks is still good about the leash, he stands there so politely while I hook him up. So no ill feelings with the purple monster.
I probably shouldn't laugh as I imagine it was horribly traumatic for Binks, but that was funny! Animals can be so silly sometimes; this once happened to my Mum's horse, only it was a piece of rope caught on her back leg instead of a lead, and she was in a field, not a carpark. The scary rop-animal kept chasing her!
Awww...poor Binky boy. I can picture that in my head, and you and him running around the parking lot. You two must have been a sight for anyone walking or driving by.
Oh my gosh, what a scary thing to happen. But funny later on!
I haven't tried the retractable leash with Rufus yet, still struggling with the plain leash and harness
A similar thing once happend with one of my cats that got her head stuck in a plastic bag handle - she was tearing through the house with this bag flapping behind her, scaring her more with each step - so much that the poor thing pooped as she went along. We couldn't catch her until she got caught under the bed. We were scared for her but also laughing uncontrollably! Poor thing still hates plastic bags. And we learned to keep them up out of the way or cut the handles!!!

Glad Binks is okay.

That had to be a sight!!! Now that I think about it... Binks was a tad stinky after the episode too. I forgot about that part, I had to clean him up a bit.
He was shook up a bit, but here lately, it seems every little adventure we have does nothing but strengthen our bonds together. I can tell that he trusts me more and more and knows that I got his back. When I started to detangle him, he just sat there and looked at like "Wow momma, that was really freaky!" Then followed by the "I wub you momma" look.
I love my little Binkster.... can't you tell? Ha ha!

Yea Deb, if I was put on this earth for no other reason than to take care of and protect Binks, I would be happy with that.... but you and I both know there are bigger reasons! I sure do thank God for this little gift!!!
Oh my Gosh, What a scarey event for Binks, but yes a little funny considering that he was fine. Chis act so big and tough and then something chases them and then they need there mommy. So it sounds like he is not holding any grudges against the purple monster.
OMG!!! I would have took a heartattack when he got away. I have one of the retracto leashes, but I don't use it. They are a hassle. I just use a plain nylon leash, atleast, when they do get away, the leash does attack them. LoL...I can imagine poor little Binks running with they leash right on his heels. I bet he about had a coronary!!! Atleast, he's okay...that's all that matters!
