I'm getting Mia spayed at the end of the month. All I know is that it's a day long surgery (well meaning we take her in in the morning and take her out in the late afternoon... but the surgery itself wont' take that long), and that she'll be groggy after that. Hmm... any experience to share? Anything that I have to pay extra attention???
The procedure is very simple. My female was spayed in July and she had some stitches but they didn't seem to bother her. I just kept an eye on it and made sure it wasn't oozing or getting infected or something. Your vet I am sure will tell you all you need to know. She will probably be groggy when you take her home and will sleep. My weren't to bad cause they stayed the night at the vets so the next day they were awake and energized and ready to go home when I got them. You will be glad when it is over. I know I was.
We will all be here for you when she goes it. I was nervous on the day even though I knew they were in good hands.
Hi, your Mia is such a pretty girl. She looks like she enjoys life... Great lake photos you posted.. Regarding having her spayed, I was very surprised to learn she will be coming home from the vet the same day as her surgery. It has been my experience for the pup to stay overnight after being put to sleep and come home the next morning. They like to make sure they are alert and eating and drinking before releasing the pup. As Bella and Beni's mom said, they are very groggy after having been put to sleep, but the next day are back to normal. Deb

I'm not sure on the actual surgery, but I do have a little advice for the post surgery time. You will need to tempt her with some food, something she really loves, and that will be easy on her stomach. Such as scrambled egg, boiled rice, or chicken.
Just a thought. Well done for making this decision sweetheart, and I hope it all goes as well as can be expected.
I'm getting her done at SPCA. I'm not sure why they let her go the same day, but I have to bring her in early in the morning, and bring her back in the late afternoon. Not sure if there wil be enough rest time for her acutally. When I called to make the appt, the lady said they'll take good care of her. I can only take her words for it. Hmm... any comments on SPCA hospital?
ChiDeb, Thanks for the compliments! hehe! I love those pics too! I think I'll bring her out there again next summer! It's getting cooler these days... maybe I'll let her swim in a bathtub in warm water! hahahha!
Good luck with the surgery. It is a very easy procedure. Rylie was spayed when she was 6 months old... and she only weighed 2.5lbs. She was trying to run around the day after she had it done.
Usually chis are as tall and as long as they will ever be by the age of 6-8 months. They are full grown at 1 year old. Mia is probably having a growth spurt :D
I had my little Peach spayed and she was a wreck that afternoon. She was all druged up and slept all afternoon. I would recommend taking the afternoon off with Mia and making sure you can watch her to see if she needs anything while she is recovering. She probably won't eat or go to the bathroom for the first day. Just make sure you're there to hold her and she does not lick her stiches or chew them out. Maybe make it a movie night :) Try to get the Vet to give you pain medication for after the surgury. I know my vet gave me pre-made feeding suringes with the right amount of pain medication for peach. It was easy to administor and def helped her get well and eaze her pain. She should be walking around in about a day or day and a half. Hope this helps and takes some worries off.

Hey VApive!!!! Sorry, had to stop by and say "Hello!!" Glad you made it over!!!! How is Miss Peach these days?
Things are good in my corner. Ellie has just been in season (her first one!) so she's been kinda tricky, but is now back to her adorable self! I cant imagine how I ever lived without her!
You must write and post new photos of Peaches for us soon! We'd all love to see her, and get the lowdown on the last couple of months!
Mia didn't get spayed on Sept 29th. Reason: she vomitted before the surgery. I think it was car sick, but the vet said it's better to wait, so I waited. Now we've scheduled her to be spayed next Friday, 13th. Hope she'll be fine!
