I love books and read quite a bit... Kinda takes me away, like Calgon We have a Sam's Cub here where you can buy the new hardbacks much cheaper than the bookstores... Plus we usually go to Barnes and Noble at least twice a week for coffee and to look at the new paperbacks...While I enjoy books in general, I think James Patterson, Nicolas Sparks, and Lisa Jackson are my fav fiction authors. I try to read all of their books. I also enjoy biographies of people that interest me.... Aw, animals, books, coffee these are a few of my favorite things...
Any one else in our group a reader???

I have no certain type of book really, but I LOVE to read! I used to do nothing but read all the time! I will read just about anything. I've read scary novels (love them), love stories, classics, just lots of stuff. Now am certainly not a child, but I'm a HUGE fan of the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I have them all and I've read books by her daughter as well. I have read all the biographys and such books on Laura also. I love to read any books at all about the old, pioneer days. I've read many books based on the diaries of Pioneer women and they are just so wonderful.
Sounds like I'm not the only one who loves to read... have you read the books by Rebecca Wells: "Little Alters Everywhere," "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood," and Ya-Yas in Bloom?" My son's girlfriend recommended them to me, so I am about to start on them..

I also love Nicholas Sparks, what's your favorite? I loved The Wedding, all of his books are great. You might like Nicholas Evans, he wrote the Horse Whisperer, he's got some good stuff too. I'm addicted to anything with a little romance in it. I also love to go to B and N to walk around, especially when it's super hot!
Hey Alison, My fav by Nicholas Sparks is "Nights in Rodanthe." I just loved it....I also have a soft spot in my heart for "The Notebook," since I lost my Dad 3 months ago to Alzheimers. B & N is a fav place also cause they have a wonderful Toffee Nut Latte!

Nights in Rodanthe, probably my second fave. The Notebook was great, loved the movie. Sorry to hear about you father.
Oh my yes, I love to read. My hubby and I have more books than the library! Favorites include mysteries by M.C. Beaton, the Mitford books by Jan Karon, the "Cat Who" mysteries by Lilian Jackson Braun, and Harry Potter.
Oh, and I also enjoy historical biographies, especially of British royalty.
The only kind of book I don't really like is first-person stories - don't know why, but usually if I pick up a book and see it's first-person I just put it down.
Sorry guys but, I HATE READING. Unless its Newspaper, magazine, or internet stuff. I have always hated reading books that my school would make us read. Did AWFUL in English. I think i am ADD bc everytime i read something i don't like, i just forget what i read. But dont hate me for it!! I love reading everything on this site!
I used to read alot of Dean Kootz also... Then he lost me when I tried to read Mr. Murder. Started it 3 times and couldn't get thru it. Are there any new ones of his that you recommend? Thanks, Deb

I'm a huge reader too - it's like an addiction for me. I have a hard time paying for my habit :p I also read before bed, which isn't always good. I get so "in" to the book, I have trouble putting it down, and hate life in the morning.
I love Kathy Reichs - I was so jazzed when they made the TV show about her (Bones). I also love Patricia Cornwell and James Patterson. I really like the books that have a "main character" and you can follow them. I'm all about Temperance Brennan and Kay Scarpetta. I got a couple of books by an author Karin Slaughter at a yard sale. So far, I'm liking her a lot as well.
I also read a ton of Christian authors. I am so hooked on the Left Behind series, and I love Max Lucado, Phillip Yancey and so many more.
I also love paranormal things a lot, especially books that are based on real 'ghostly' accounts. I picked up a book several days ago at Walmart that was published in 1995, I believe, called Haunted America. The same Authors have one called Haunted Heartland as well. It's good! I'm loving it! I lay in bed and read it and sometimes even get a little spooked! LoL! I am about 2/3 way through the book. It tells stories from every state in the US and also from all areas of Canada.

Oh yeah! I love it! I'm really into paranormal. I read stuff, look up stuff and watch stuff about the paranormal as much as I can. It's almost ashame I don't live in a 'haunted' house. Nothing has ever happened here though. However, I worked in a group home for mentally handicapped adults for almost 6 years that had many strange happenings. And many from my family have loved in some really active places.
I love to read as well. Magazine, books, it doesn't matter to me what it is. If I find it interesting, I read it. My favorite author right now is John Grisham. I have read all his books. I love that lawyer stuff..lol I also just finished reading Cesar Milan's book Cesar's way. I found it to be really interesting. Although I don't always agree with him on certain things, I have found it a very interesting book. Has anyone else read it, and have some feedback on it?
I also like fantasy books. Terry Brooks is my fav of those ones.
Haven't read Ceasar Milan's book, but have read The Dog Listener by Jan Fennell and found it very interesting. Most of her work has taken place in England and she passionately believes that violence has no place in our relationship with animals.
I am currently reading The Black Dahlia by James Ellroy. I guess I had seen so many advertisements for the movie that I wanted to read the book. I am about halfway thru the book now. The jury is still out on how much I like it..It is not the easiest book to read but some of the characters are interesting.

Hey Deb-
I was just on Amazon.com and saw that Nichalos Sparks latest book will be coming out on 10/30. Just thought that I would pass along the info to another Sparks fan.
I usually wait for the books to come out in paperback. I read about 1-2 hours in bed every night and a paperback is easier to read in bed. I buy all my books at Costco. Big savings! I'll be waiting for the new Sparks. I'm reading Table for Five by Susan Wiggs right now. I give it a 6 out 10 rating.
Hi everybody! I see no one has mentioned The Secret Life of Bees (my all time fav), or The Mermaid Chair. Did you see The Mermaid Chair on "made for tv" movie??? These two books are so great.
Nicholas Sparks' new book is out now...can't remember the name.
I like to search for books on my county library system. They will send a book from any branch and send it to your branch in 1-3 days. It shows a pic of the book and tells about it, and you can search a thousand ways there. It is sort of like ordering on Amazon....except it is free!!! I like to always get a book that way first and check it out to see if it is worth even reading.
I too really enjoyed The Secret Life of Bees... Read it a while back... Haven"t read The Mermaid Chair though..I saw the new Niclolas Sparks book at Barnes and Noble tonight..

I have been a lover of books all of my life. It started with Dr.Seuss when I was knee high to a grasshopper. I love to get lost in another world for a little while, so good for the mind. I don't really have a preference, but I love to switch up the generes. My most favourite author is Diana Gabaldon. Her Outlander series is amazing. It has all aspects that make a great read; romance, history, mystery and science. Oh and the main character is a nurse so I am kinda partial to that!
I just finished Nicholas Spark's latest novel, Dear John. Although, I did get a little weepy at the end (as I always do at the end of his books!), I don't think that it was his best work. It took me 2 days to finish, which it means that it held my interest as any any good love story does.
Anyone else read it? I would love some other feedback.
I also read a bit too. James Patterson, John Grisham, Stephen King. I love to read dog books of course, my recent dog book was "Cesar Milan's way". His awesome!!! I wish I was like him. And I'm passionate about Frida Kahlo biographies and paintings and other books about her.
