What to do when...

Corona has been really bad about still pooping in the house, she doesnt give any signs when she has to go, she just goes. (Thank god my room mates are understanding!). So, trying to be a good chi mom, I've been keeping a REALLY close eye on her... she wears her harness and drag line after meal times so I can grab her quickly and get her outside if I think there's a chance she might have to go.

Okay, so here's my problem. Tonight. I knew she had to poop... I took her outside and the grass is wet from rain which she hates, but she finally had a pee, and then tried to run inside. So we were in and out a few times and nothing... finally I thought I'd just go outside and WAIT it out... well, outside we go, and she just pulled and pulled at the end of the lead and YELPED and cried and whined and barked until I finally had to bring her in for fear the neighbours would complain... and sure enough, not five minutes later, she went on the carpet.

What is the proper thing to do in a situation like that?? I cannot stand out there for ages with her yowling... but obviously, going in the house is not the right option either!

Oh man, that sucks! Potty training can be such a pain in the butt! As much as it would seem to be going backwards, would she go on a pee pad? At least it would be better than on the carpet :) Is it only a problem when the grass is wet and it is cold outside? ( I could see this being a major problem in the cold Alberta winter then!!!) Do you give her heck when she poops on the floor? Just wondering how she is reacting, because if Mater goes on the floor and I get upset with him, he is so sensittive he goes into his kennel and hides, you'd think that I beat him!! And Merrie really could care less if I talk sternly to her at all :) Each is so different! Another option is litter box training if she refuses to go outside too. I haven't persoally tried it, but I have talked to people who have and they swear by it.

At the moment I am trying to train Merrie (who is awesome with using the pads but doesn't like going outside much) to stop using the pads unless it is an emergency, and to train Mater (who only likes going outside, otherwise he will go anywhere but the pads usually!) to use the pad in case of an emergency....so I feel your pain :) Mater took the opportunity to use my bed as his toilet the other night, the little bum! He seriouly could care less where he is when nature calls, he will go right then and there, although, not at night, he will hold it til I let them out of the x-pen.

Hopefully some other members might have some other suggestions, and good luck in the mean time!

The problem is, I never am able to catch her in the act, I always just come across her little "gifts", and with three room mates who are even less vigilant than I am (they just want the puppy out to play!), it makes things even harder.

I will see if I can find a little room around here to put down a pad and see if that helps any.
