Can any of you breeders tell me what is the latest age to breed a dog at? I am considering breeding Ellie but have to wait a year which means Ellie will be about two and a half years old. Is that too old for her first litter?
I'm no expert on the subject Jess, but I think she is big enough to breed as long as the stud is smaller than Ellie. I would do as much research as you can on it before doing anything. I know that birthing can be very hard on little dogs and my biggest concern would be Ellie, as I know it would be your biggest concern as well being the doting mum that you are.
Thanks sattie, sweets! I'm pretty sure Ellie's weight is ok to breed from it's just the age thing that concerns me a little. I've been told by one friend who breeds Chis that 2 and a 1/2 is fine for a first litter but I'd just like a little more confirmation! lol
I've not made up my mind about it completely just yet and I have about a year before I need to decide so I've got a LOT of thinking and researching to do! lol
