please think good thoughts for her

Our Queen of WCC's "Fangadang" is ill, poor fang who gains weight so easily, we tried a "new" diet food, she had diareha for 5 days, finally her poor little bum we... to put it as nicely as possible, swelled up and blew within an hour, I thought it was a blown anal glad and hot spots (anal glads can fill quickly if your dog has diareha) she was bleeding, so I rushed her to emerg. they thought it was not an blown glad, but raw from the acid in her poop, well this vet told me to give her white rice, and apply antibiotics after washing thew area everytime, yah, didn't work,
our poor baby was leaking literally, day 6, she can't be loose in the house, hasn't been in the bedroom for 5 nights, she is so upset, I tried everything that I could think of, her lips are looking funny too, they are pink on the edges , I believe she got toxidia from this food, you can hear her belly turning. so I put her back on her regular food, but hasn't worked yet, so I was brain storming today, and think I might have figured out a way to firm up her stool, pepto didn't work, cheese didn't work, white rice didn't either ....Calcium! you have to be very careful with calcium (don't try it if you don't have experience)
well,  no poop in 5 hours! we may have it licked, but as you know chis can go down hill very fast if they get dehydrated (diareha causes serious deydration) ect.... so please think good thoughts for her. She needs it. cry

Poor baby Fang... Beth I am so sorry she is having to experience such trauma... I pray the calcium does work for her. I went thru a blown anal gland with my Macky (RIP) once, and it scared both him and me half to death... His gland actually ruptured, bled and left an open hole that continued to drain. He was put on antibiotics by mouth and ointment for the infected area. I am quite diligent about keeping a check on my guys and having their anal glands expressed as needed, but I sure missed that one..
Please let us know how Fang is doing and for goodness sakes, no more diets for that baby girl...lol Deb

Poor Fangadang!  I feel so bad for all of you, she must be very traumatized, I know she is used to being out and about all the time, and in your hubbys shop around people, she must be wondering what is going on.  Give her lots of love from me, and I hope she gets real better soon, and big hugs to you, I know you must be a little stressed to say the least!  Good luck!

Nope, still liquid, we are going back to the vet this evening  for some tests ect. this has been too many days now, and we are thinking it's something more serious than the food.  : (

well, $200 today, so we're up to $325 this week, (* yes Hazel~ get insurance*)but we're finally on the right track.
this vet said the one was saw 4 days ago was an idiot!!!!
anyways they did a bacterial swab, and found all positive, wich is not good, there should be an equal amount of positive and negative, and I brought in a stool sample to look for worm eggs and parasites. and she said, the medication she perscribed will fix the bacteria prob. and she said we have to do 24 hrs. no food, then the canned bland food she perscribed, the the next day ween onto her food with the perscription. if this does not work within a couple days, we need to do blood tests to see how her liver and kidneys are. She said the first vet should have known to do the 24 hr. fast to give her bowels a break then try a firming process, and that she was treating the raw bum, but not the diarrehea that was causing it wich was stupid because the cream she perscribed was being lost as soon as she leaked again, and the cone collar was stupid! and don't do it, it just upsets her more and makes her poop more, so I guess we'll see. poor baby.

well, we've found our new vet!
Fang this morning after only one dose of her meds, had a solid, and this afternoon was chasing Mambo around the yard as normal, she's got her spunk back! and her bum looks almost normal.
Thank goodness, we were so worried about her. Her stool sample came back normal so it was just her bacterial levels were uneven.
I am so thankful that it was found right away, having diarrehea that long can do serious damage to the liver, among other probs.
I am so glad to have her back to sorta normal, but the real test will be tomarow with the perscr. food, then back onto her food with it.

That is awesome news Beth!  I am so happy for you and Fang, and Mambo for that matter, I am sure he was confused and missed playing with her terribly!  I know how streesed out you have been over this whole mess, and I am glad that it is starting to look better for you.  Love ya both!!

Beth that is wonderful news!  I am so relieved to hear Fang is doing so much better..Thank goodness for a vet who diagnosed the problem quickly and correctly...I know you have been so worried about your baby...smile

Once a good while back when one of my chis had a problem, the vet told me to occasionally give her a little yogurt especially after she had been on antibiotics to restore the good bateria in her system.  Have you ever heard of that? Deb

I'm glad to hear that she is doing so much better. It always is rotten when our we ones get ill. Good thing that vet knew more than the other one did.

Yes deb, yogurt has the good bacteria same as using asadopholis, it's good for people too.
Thanks to all of you for so much suport.
I think it helped me and her get better so quick. You guys are like family.
thank you.

Wow, I'm not entirely sure how I managed to miss this post, but I have just read it and I wanted to say how sorry I am that your darling Fang had to go through all that!  Poor baby!  I'm so glad to hear she's on the mend though, what good news!  biggrin

Please send Fang a snuggle nd a lick from her Auntie Jess and get her to give you one back from me too!
