Puzzling

Hiya!

I have noticed something strange about Ellie's behaviour in our bed recently.  Whenever she's up on the bed if she's not sleeping she scratches furiously.  It's the weirdest thing cos she doesn't do it anywhere else.  Ellie has had itching problems in the past due to wrong diet but that's not what this is, I'm just so puzzled at it!  lol  Why would she only scratch on our bed?!  Could she be allergic to feathers (we have feather duvet and pillows) or something?!  confuse.gif  weirdface

Love to you all x

Hey Jess... each of my girlies does this from time to time whether it be in our bed, their bed, the couch etc...
I think it is comparable to the 'wild dog' days of when they had to go in circles to pat down the long grasses to lay in.
Thats the only thing I can thiink of.
My parents schnauzer does it too.

The only other thing that I can think of apart from what Miss V said is maybe the detergent that is used to clean the bedding? I know when I wash the doggie beds, I only use half the detergent that I would normally use because of their known sensitivities. Just a thought!

Hi, and thanks girls for the responses!  wink.gif

Victoria, I think I might have confused you, when I say Ellie scratches I mean she scratches herself, not the bed.  She gets itchy.  But she definitely does what you were describing too!  lol  But I'm not too worried about that one!  lol  giggle.gif

Sattie, that was one of the first things I thought of too, but James pointed out to me that we wash her beds and clothing in the same thing but she only scratches on our bed.

It's SO weird, I just cant figure it out!  lol  confuse.gif  I dont understand...

Alot of dogs do this, it's natural instict to burrow where they sleep, even mommas getting ready to whelp will dig and scratch for days before they deliver to have  a "proper in their minds" bed. I wouldn't worry about it, all of our bed dwellers do it right when we first go to bed.smile

OMG.. lol.. sorry.. I hope you find out what is going on with her scratching herself. Maybe it is the detergent.

Yeah, the thought that it might be the washing powder/conditioner crossed my mind too, but the thing is we use the same stuff on all Ellie's clothes and beds and there's no reaction to those.  It really is most puzzling...

I have a shih Tzu that scratches when he gets really excited...it is like he doesn't know how to contain his excitement....so he scratches, I wonder if she is so happy and excited to be in bed, she does the same thing?  Does she also lick herself like she is cleaning herself?  Could be she is just getting ready for bed, and she is preening and prepping herself.....just a thought, I don't know!smile
