She's HERE!!! Yup, my pretty little girl arrived this afternoon. Mum tried penning her for a while and gave in after half an hour... not a good start! So when I got home I played with her for a good 45 minutes and then I had to put her in her pen so I could go out and feed the horses... that was 20 minutes ago now and she's been SCREAMING non-stop, what a little booger, lol. I've been ignoring her, but my parents keep looking over and talking to her, which likely isn't helping... I think I could train the dog, but can I train my parents!?!
Well, we'll see how it goes! I have tomorrow off work so we can do some good bonding and playing... if we survive the night, lol.
Poor Stacey, and poor Corona...she is feeling a little lost, I'm sure... I wish I could offer some helpful advice...but I have to admit that mine are all so spoiled, I would be such a hypocrite if I tried to advise you... Four of my babies sleep in my bed...lol Deb

Yea, I'm afraid I'm bad when it comes to discipline... I love for my guys to be with us so when I first brought Binks home, we just hung out together and bonded. I even took him to work with me! I'm sure it has been a stressful day for little Corona and she is feeling lonely and lost. Remember patience with your little one and you may need to speak to your parents about how you want to train Corona so she is not confused. But I am sure it is like having a new baby in the house to your parents... they are grandparents of a little Chihuahua!!!
Oooh, you know what? You got the heading to this post spot on I'm afraid! lol These next few months, well a year really, will be very tough and a lot of hard work. But it is essential and you'll definitely be glad you did all the back breaking stuff when you get 15 years or so with a lovely little companion. Of course, there's a TON of fun and laughs and love that's also going to happen in this time, so dont despare! lol
Training the people around you can sometimes be a bigger challenge of training the puppy! My fiance, James, is terrible with Ellie and teaches her all sorts of bad habits! lol Bless him.
To be honest with you, I personally think that perhaps you should just make the next few days bonding time with Corona. Just you and her, lots of cuddles, and no pen. The training can come later. I think the most important thing for you and her right now (remember she's just lost everything she's ever known and loved) is to bond and build a good, strong relationship. Then once she's settled you can introduce the pen and any other 'house rules' and training. Are you enrolling her in a puppy obedience class? They're GREAT, I strongly reccomend them!
I understand how important it is to have a well trained dog and fully support your decision on that. I also think you're doing a great job, so well done sweetie! It can be a bit demoralising, but you can feel you've failed at times, but in truth, it is those hard times that make your new puppy a great adult dog.
