My Poor Poor Tony!!!!

So some of you probably knew that I was at the boyfriend's house for the past week, helping him while he was very VERY sick. On Monday evening we went to the family doctor to try and see if we could get an antibiotic for him, and there he was diagnosed with the flu. We accepted that, and went to get the meds. The Motrin she had givin him was not helping at all, and Tony was only getting worse and worse. He asked me to call back to the doctor and ask for some pain medication because the right side of his throat hurt, along with his right ear and the entire right side of his face. The doctor gave us a detox system, and tylenol 3.

Now, I have a TERRIBLE immune system. I've had it all my life, and I generally get the flu two to three times a year during the holiday season. Because of my bad immune system, I've had a different number of complications while I've had the flu... but never anything like he was describing to me. He couldnt swallow water, and he couldnt speak because his throat was so swollen... so my mom and I drove him to the Hospital last night. The first hospital was horrible, and we werent going to get him seen anytime soon. He was beginning to have problems breathing. So we went to the second hospital, and after we got through the first stages there, some medical student comes up and looks into Tony's mouth with a tongue depresser.... AND HE HAD AN ABCESS IN HIS THROAT!!!

I KNEW it wasnt the flu... I KNEW it... and when I said something to the family physician, I was pretty much told to shut up because I didnt know what I was talking about. I told her that I thought it was an abcess, and she said that she couldnt see anything. He's never going back to that doctor again. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So at the hospital, they had to drain the abcess in his throat with a really large needle. They numbed him up for it, of course, and he had an IV flowing with morphine to help him out. Then they kept on sticking this camera thingy with a light on it down his throat and through his nose and all. He kept on choking and crying, and it sounded like he was drowning. It was so hard for me to stand there and not want to scream at the doctors that they were hurting him... but I had to remember that they were there to help him, and that is what they were going to do. Help him.

They pulled out 6cc of a coffee colored looking puss from the abcess in his throat... and I got really sick just watching it. I'm not a squimish person at all, and if it were some one else, I would have been okay. It's just that I have issues with watching things get done to people that I love. I sort of started having a panic attatck, then I had an asthma attatck... LOL. Everything turned out okay though, and I stayed with him until about 12:00 that night, then I had to come back home to the dogs. Heck, he was doing so much better after they drained that thing, he was laughing and talking, and he was even ready to eat and drink! They decided to keep him over night just to watch him, but I should have my big baby back here soon.

So that was my really exciting and scary night... LOL.

WOW Mia, that sounds crazy, and painful!!!  That must have been pure misery for him.  Well I am glad that it is all better now and that he finally has some relief.  You did good in taking care of him and making sure he got the care he needed.

It took a MEDICAL STUDENT to find the abcess! Where did your family physcian go to medical school?

I'm so happy Tony is better. What an awful night for all of you.

Poor Tony! I'm glad to hear he is doing so much better now he had that drained.  Good thing you and your Mom took him to the hospital when you had the feeling something wasn't right.

Tony Update: I just got back from seeing him. He's was in a holding room in the ER because the Hospital doesnt have any other rooms left. But he just called me a few minutes ago to let me know that he finally got into a room.

He has a room mate that is a few years younger than he is, so he's got some one there to talk to, which is good. He's also eating and drinking regularly now, and he should probably be coming home soon! He's doing awesome, and I am really really glad that we took him to the hospital when we did.

And Linda... Yes... a MEDICAL STUDENT looked into his mouth and noticed the abcess in less than 10 seconds... I was INSANE with anger... LOL. I called the family physician and complained so bad though, so they know that they definitely messed up.

Oh Mia honey, that's terrible!  I'm pretty sure my GP is incompitant too actually!  I'm going to change to another as soon as I get my whole 'DLA appeal thingy' sorted!  Having a bad Doctor is tghe worst, isn't it?!  Mine has really messed up my apeal for me!  He keeps on trying to tell me about my M.E. too when he knows nothing about it!

I'm really glad Tony's getting the right treatment now, I bet you cant wait to have him home again, huh?!

Love and hugs to you both x

Thanks for the warm wishes everyone!!

I spoke to tony about an hour ago, and he is to be discharged soon. He's going to see an oral surgeon this afternoon to get a broken tooth removed from his mouth, incase that was the cause of the infection. Jeez... his poor little dog Gringo (italian greyhoud/chihuahua mix) cant wait to have his daddy back. Chimi and our Chinese crested dont seem to mind too much that he's gone, but they are both my dogs... poor little Gringo's been running about the house for two days now searching for his daddy!

I know everyone will be happy to see him home though! Especially me!
