Took Rufus for a walk today (it's beautiful and warm!) and there was a huge grasshopper on the driveway. Rufus has never seen one. I pointed it out to him, he took one sniff and then - GULP - that poor old grasshopper was history. What was really gross was that Rufus spit out the shell, then chewed up the innards. I felt so guilty - he hadn't even noticed the thing until I pointed to it. I figured he'd sniff it, maybe bat it around a bit. Didn't expect him to eat it!
I'm assuming it won't hurt him? After all, they eat bugs all over the world. I was just surprised that he ate it.
Well Chico Doesnt eat grasshoppers, but he does have a die-hard vendetta against all flying insects! We thin he was stug by a wasp as a puppy, because when one comes around ( he has teh most sharp eyes), he jumps up, stares tright at it , and chases it jumoping and snapping at it. Its a riot really, he's eaten moths and flys, he's always fine. Peaches ( our chi/pug mix) HAs an Ant fettish. She will lie on the ground just eating any ant taht walks by, its really cute. (*mm protein*) LOL, i think its just a quirk taht comes with each individule dog. dont worry, it wont hurt him, and he will be great! ( as long as he doesnt eat a poisonous beetle or a wasp or bee!)
I think my guys are good at catching flies.... not sure that they eat them, but flying insects def. pique their intrest. Binks will not eat bugs, but he must love the smell of them because he rolls on them and rubs his face on them. Not sure what it is about bugs, but the smell seems to intrigue him.
Yup, we're a bug catching and bug eating (if I dont catch her before it's too late) household here! Ellie loves and is fascinated by all flying and jumping insects. I dont think it will harm them, it's just a bit sad for the bug!
Dont worry Lin, Rufus is a completely normal puppy!

anyway she chased it all over the living room, barked at it and barked..then it jumped on her head, she couldnt find it..i said "its on your head!" and she had to have known what i meant cause she shook her head and it fell off..then she ate it..she showed it who's the boss..
