Need Advice

Hiya,

I am worried about Ellie.  For the past few days she has been scratching a lot.  She doesn't have fleas and I cant see any sign of anything else, such as mites.  Her coat and skin look fine, good even!  Then this morning she vomitted.  It didn't seem to be something she'd eaten that she shouldn't have, and it was all liquid (sorry for the yucky details!), and a funny bright yellow colour.  Other than that she is acting completely normally.

I think I will take her to the Vet on saturday morning, but just wanted to see what you guys thought.  I am rather worried about her.

Love to all, Jess x

Jess,

The yellowish vomit is usually just stomache acid, which as you know is an indication of an upset tummy.  My dogs do it from time to time and usually in the morning.  I don't worry about it to much unless it becomes chronic.

As for the scratching... has she been outside in an area that has been treated with chemicals (lawn fertilizer or stuff like that)?  If her food is the same and nothing else has changed, I am really not sure where else to look.  Or maybe some cleaing agent that you have used around the house.  Or... (sorry, I keep thinking of things) have you washed her bed or has she had a bath with some sort of new doggie shampoo?

If she is scratching, then maybe an oatmeal bath may help to ease her skin.

Other than that, if the scratching continues, then a trip to the vet may be best.

Keep us posted sweetie... hope Miss Ellie gets to feeling better soon!

Oh poor Ellie! Sorry I don't have any advice, just sending prayers and good wishes to both of you that she's okay soon!

Blessings - Lin

Thanks guys!

Ellie has just changed foods, so my first guess on the itching was that she is sensitive to something in it.  It's odd though because Pero is possibly the best quality complete dog food you could find here in the UK.    It contains human grade organic chicken, organic rice, organic pearl barley, organic oats, fish meal and a few other minerals and vitamins.  No wheat gluten, preservatives, colouings, GM foods, and  nothing that I can think of that she might have a problem with.  I am confused!

She has not, to my knowledge, been anywhere that could have caused either symptoms.  No bath, and I've not washed her bed for a couple of weeks.

Hopefully the Vet will be able to shed more light on this on sarurday.

Love, Jess x

I forgot about you changing foods, but I figured it had been long enough that if anything was going to come of it, it would have already.

With that in mind, I would blame the food more than anything, but like you said, lets see what the vet says.  Hopefully she will be ok!!!

I am puzzled by the itching...I am not sure what it could be except for the new food. Beni has vomited the yellow stuff before. He did it a couple days ago which is another reason why I was worried about him not eating his new food. I freaked out about it at first until someone told me it was stomach acid and to wait about an hour after to feed him. I fed him right away once and he just threw up again with the food. Keep posted about the itching.

I have a horrible suspision that it might be the food, it would just be ironic!  I really dont want it to be though.  I've found the best food I can get, and I really want her to stay on it!

I'll let you know what the vet says come saturday!

Thanks you guys for helping!

Love, Jess x

Well girls I didn't actually take Ellie to the Vet at the weekend, I thought I'd just wait a bit longer and see if her nipples were still swollen in a few days.  It is now wednesday evening and they are still big.  I'm not sure if thay are quite as big as they were, but they seem more spread out.    I'm kind of puzzled!  So I'm considering taking her this next saturday morning.  She's not vommited again so I am thinking perhaps that was a one off.  Her scratching has reduced, so I'm not so worried about that either, and she seems to be eating the food very well now.

Thnks for all your thoughts and replies guys, it relly means a lot to know I hvae good friends on here. x

Let us know what the vet says if you take her.  I am curious to what conclusions they will come to.
