Ok, I have a question. I've noticed that since having Sassy here, that she tends to get, well, smelly, when the boys don't. I mean the boys will get a slight smell is not bathed for a good while, but Sassy gets a certain stink to her pretty quickly. Even when bathed regularly. I don't mean to sound mean nor do I mean any harm, I just wondered if it was a Sassy thing or an overall female chi thing? This is the first time I've had a female, so I was just not sure.
Don't have females, so I can't help with this one. I would think that Deb or WestCoastChi would have some input on this... or anyone that has kept females!!!
I have girls and do not have this problem with mine. The only time they produce a noticeable odor is when they are in season. You may want to have her check by the vet to be sure there is no type of infection involved. Good luck.. Deb

Yeah, I agree with Deb; Ellie doesn't get that. so perhaps it is a Sassy thing, in which case I would ask your Vet.
I had a Shih Ztu once who had a similar problem. She had some sort of problem with her ears. We never could sort it out for her (tried everything) but it didn't seem to bother her. Just us!
I've noticed that some dogs are just smellier than others, like humans having big or something, so I guess it could be that too. I would ask your Vet.
I have Peach and she's a little girl CHI...I dont have the problem of any smell but the ears sometimes and I ususaly clean those out once a week. Check and see if you see any brown wax in her ears...if so...clean them out and go to Target, get some ear mite drops w/aloe...it only cost around 3 bucks...try that for a week...if it doesn't seem to work take her to the vet...Also some pups will get a smell from people touching them and leaving their oils from their hands on their skin...Hope this info helps...
Thanks for the input guys. I sould have stressed more probably that it's not a really strong, terrible odor, just something noticable that I hadn't noticed on the boys. I will ask the Vet though, just to be sure. I've noticed more on some days than others and since it's been a while, I'm pretty sure that's just how Sassy is. It's never been overwhelming or even noticed by the rest of the family. I'm very thankful for the replies here.
Mia's a girl... she does have a certain kinda of smell. It's not like those regular dog smell... it's different. It's not very strong, but you can smell it once in a while. I dont' think it's from the ears either. Oh and you can only smell it when you hold her close. After she is bathed and perfumed, you can't really smell it. Well I should say that kinda smell you cannot always smell it; it comes and goes.

Akira smelled awful when we first brought her home, she smelled like a horse barn. The breeder had a large farm and she had the dogs out in a barn, so I thought it was that, but I couldn't wash it off of her. It was so bad we didn't want her around us. Finally realized she still had puppy teeth (at 8mos), so when we had her spayed, they pulled the the puppy teeth and no more smell. You might want to have her teeth looked at. They may either need a good cleaning or some retained puppy teeth pulled.
i have 3 girls and they dont smell,,, my 9yr old chi (rip) used to have a bit of a smell but she had probs so maybe that was why,,,, but my 3 now dont have a smell prob and if u keep them clean during their season they should be fine too good luck with yrs
Hmm I'm just wondering if it's pheromone. You know all of us human have a certain smell, but we have gotten used to our own smell, so we dont' smell it. For women, sometimes it is stronger or weaker due to hormonal changes. Do you think it could be the same for chihuahuas too?
Well recently I brought Mia out to see vet twice for general check up (coz i'm getting her spayed). Both didn't see any problem, so I think she's fine.
Well Mia's smell is not unpleasant, and it's only once in a while... I don't really mind... hehe!
