Shiny coat

Paka's coat is on the dry dull side. Are there any supplements I can add to his food to make his coat shiny and healthy.

My vet had put Beni on a fatty acid vitamin supplement called 3V Caps HP . They come in snip caps so you can snip of the end and squeeze the stuff out. It is liquidy. I first mixed it in Beni's dry food and he wouldn't touch it. So then I squeezed it in these treats for doggies called pill pockets and that worked for awhile and then he wouldn't eat them. So now I really have to trick him into eating it by putting it in cheese or chicken or something really good to hide the taste. The stuff has a really strong smell. Any way it did help make his coat and skin really healthy and shiny. I cut back on it and now his hair is getting dry again. I wish i could find something that tastes good that I could put in his food but I haven't yet.

I give my dogs fish, flax, and borage oil capsules.  The vet suggested it for my lab and aussie when they were getting dry skin during the winter months.  It has omega 3 fats in it, and has helped zip and chuwee with their coats alot.  I use to give it in cheese, until Zip figured it out and refused to eat it.  Now I just squeeze it out in their food.

HP, I use to give Boots fish oil capsules, they helped with his coat and the dry skin.  Boots loved them and would eat them without having to be disguised.

I have some Daily Bites Skin & Coat treats for my chis.  I've not gave them to them regularly though, but they have sunflower oil, vitamins E, C & Beta Carotene.  I can't remember if I bought these or if they were some treats that were sent with Sassy when she arrived. I forget.  But these are just the Walmart Ol' Roy brand.  Your're supposed to feed one daily per 10 lbs, but I've not done so.  My furballs have really good skin & coat so I've not worried about them getting them.  Might work in the long run though if given daily.  I know there are different skin & coat supplements out there.

I just buy them at Walmart in the vitamin section.  Cheaper than the vets office, and does the exact same thing.

James squeezes a capsule of Cod Liver Oil onto Ellie's food regularly. She goes NUTS for it!  Check out 'Giraffe in a Former Life?' post in the photo forum for proof!
