Movies

I know that we had a thread devoted to movies on the last forum, so I thought I'd bring it back.  The last movie I saw was Friends with Money, which was pretty good.  Jennifer Anniston stars in it and I thought that it was pretty funny.

Good idea girlie!!!

Ok, I saw The Chronicles of Narnia.... (book was a fav of mine when I was a kid), I thought the movie was pretty good.

Also watched Doom.... that was ok... felt like I was watching a video game, but I guess that was the point.

I started to watch the Ice Harvest, but did not make it to the end... seemed like a decent movie, guess I need to watch it again!

Oooh, good thread idea Alison!  Nice one!

Jenn, so with you on The Notebook!  LOVE it!  James didn't, but he said he loved watching me watch it!    He's so sweet!

Has anyone seen Memoirs of a Geisha?  I saw it at the cinema and adored it.  I loved the book and always thought they should make it into a film so it was great when they actually did!  I think I must buy it on DVD soon.

Love, Jess x

I cry at every episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, so your not alone.  Crying is healthy, at least that is what I tell myself !

I am a ball baby... and yes, I cry at the stupidest things... any movie that has an inkling of hope or good doing in it... I'm crying.  Some songs, some news reports, you name it, I cry.  I think I cry at least once or twice a day.

Another "boo hoo" here.  I am so touched by sincere kindness and courage that I cry like a baby, but at least they are happy tears...

I am so jealous!  I used to be a real cryer too, but have not cried since my brain haemorrhage six years ago.  It's like my eyes are broken or something. I often feel like I need to cry but it's just not working.  Bummer as I kind of feel crying is a very fminine act and it's got to be one of the only girly things I dont (cant) take part in!  I am a very girlie girl.

Great thread!!! I had forgotten all about the movie thread:)

I loved the Notebook, have the dvd.

We went and saw The Guardian yesterday with Costner and Kutcher.  I wasn't sure I would like it, not much of a Kutcher gal.  But I have to say it was pretty good.  Really interesting stuff about Coast Guard training etc.  The storyline was good as well.

We also saw Jet Li's latest movie last week Fearless.  Bases on a true story.  I liked it alot as well. I like the wire action in these types of movies.

We have 'Walk The Line' too, and I love it!  They're both so good in it, and it is an incredible story.  Definitely recommend it!

Did any of you see or like 'The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy'?  I thought it was brilliant.  It is such a fantastic story and the new film was cast so wonderfully.  Double recommendation!

Love, Jess x

Jess, I was actually disappointed at Hitchhiker's Guide - loved the books and loved the OLD BBC mini-series. Thought the latest movie was too disjointed and confusing - I can't imagine how anyone who didn't know the books could make sense of it. Some of the special effects were great, though!

Favorite recent movies for me include the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Harry Potter movies, and Narnia. (Can you tell I'm a sci fi and fantasy fan?)

My favorite movie of all time is "An Affair to Remember" with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr. An oldie but goodie that makes me cry every time!!!

Blessings - Lin

I didnt know hitchikers was a book, i thought it was, starnge, confusing, choppy, and  abit loopy,. LOl it was funny, but it seemed like the writters where on drugs when they wrote it it was so weird! lol very creative, and you dont soon forget it, btu i found it very weird. LOL, i bet i would have enjoyed it more had i seen tehmini series or read teh books.

Yeah, I guess as I knew them as books and from the original filming it made sense to me.  James and I loved it so much we ended up buying two copies by mistake for eachother!

I too thought Narnia was good.  I remember the original films from when I was a kid and have always adored the stories.  The only thing I didn't like was the way they made the animals mouths move when they spoke.  But a great film over all!

I absolutely love Harry Potter too.  As usual though the books are a lot better than the films, but that's how it nearly always is.  I enjoyed the film hugely though just because it was Harry Potter, not because I thought they were made particularly well.

Love, Jess x

ChicoLover - Hitchhikers is actually I think a four or five book "trilogy" - and yes, I do think the guy that wrote them must have been on drugs! (He died a year or so ago) If you can get your hands on them, the first three books are hilarious - the movie just didn't do them justice. The author is Douglas Adams.

Jess, I agree that the Harry Potter books are generally better than the movies - JK Rowling is a talented writer, and no movie can capture all the subplots without turning into somthing as long as the Lord of the Rings movies! Can't wait for the next movie (next year, I think) and the last ;-( book. (BTW, did you cry when Dumbledore died in the last book? I've read it at least a dozen times and I still tear up!)

Blessings - Lin

I actually liked the movie... I thought it was different and strange, but I enjoyed it.  I love Zooey!!!  I like the part where the "fly swatter" things kept smacking them in the face.  The thing I liked about it was that it was not your run-of-the-mill space story.

I have never read the books and had no idea that it was in book form.  And I agree, the movie rarely ever does the book justice.

Nah, not narrow minded... I know they are good movies.. I just can't get into them for some reason.  Same with Harry Potter, I watched the first movie and thought it was good, but can't seem to want to sit down and watch the other 20 that came out since the first!!!  Just a matter of prefrence.  One of these days, I will get in the mood and watch them.

Sattie, I think you are exactly right. We all have different tastes, different likes and dislikes. That's what makes life interesting. We don't have to like everything the same in order to be friends!

One thing we all have in common on this forum at least - we love our chihuahuas!!!!

Hey Brit-

I loved Moulin Rouge!  I also have the sound track and suprisingly, Nicloe and Ewan(sp?)  have great voices. I used to have a Moulin Rouge avater, maybe I'll put it back up!

I also love ELF!  My favorite part of the movie is when the mom asks "Do you like maple syrup?", buddy answers "Does it have sugar in it?" The mom nods her head, then Buddy replies "Then yes!"  It's so funny how child like he is!

Will Farrell rocks!!

I loved Moulin Rouge too!  But I think I'd love anything Baz Luhrman directs.  Did you guys see Strictly Ballroom or Romeo and Juliet?  I adored both!

How about Pride and Prejudice? The newest movie was good - but my favorite is the BBC/A&E mini-series with Colin Firth!

Ahhhh yes!!!  Yes I have seen that one as well... plus it has Reese in it too!!  That one is very off the wall, but I like it for it's strangeness.  We just watched The Machinest again last night, seems like everytime I watch it, I catch something that I missed before.

Loved (and read) all the Harry Potter movies. Also liked the Lord of the Rings movies.

I haven't been to a movie in a long time, here is the reason. I've become addicted to Korean dramas on tv. I've also bought a whole bunch of boxed sets of these dramas. Does anyone else here on CC share my addiction?

Well, I finally saw Walk the Line!  It was soooo good!  I bought it.  Ah, I'm so glad I got to see it finally!  I still haven't seen The Notebook though. To make my spooky side content, I bought The Grudge.  I've seen it a couple times though.  I sure want to see The Grudge 2, it opened in theatres today!
