I am a little worried about Ellie at the moment. She is in the second (I think!) stage of her season and is behaving very strangley indeed. She has pretty much stopped leaving stains all over the place, but now she is trying to do unspeakable (ahem!) acts with her toy hedgehog and even our arms when she thinks can get away with it. Ewwww!!! She also seems terribly uneasy, restlesss, and very very needy/clingy. She cries and makes lots of funny noises all the time; just sits there and gazes at me doing this. I just dont know what to do when she does it, I cant work out what she wants! Help!
Does anyone have any suggestions/tips/aadvice for me? I really cant wait til this is all over!
Well Jess, never having females, much less ones in heat kinda leaves me without advice for you. It does seem strange to me that she is acting so oddly. I guess in this situation, I kinda look forward to what Deb has to say about it. And the ahem thing... not sure if that is a dominance issue or it is truly related to the condition.
Hey Jess, Don't worry about Ellie.. She's just in "hormone overload!" This too will pass with time. At the risk of sounding crass, she's just "desiring the companionship of a male dog," and their "ain't " one around!!!

I agree with Deb. My female lab did the exact same things when she came into heat. It was a bit embarassing for awhile because she wasn't a tiny dog. But eventually all that passed, and she was herself again. :)
Well I have mostly girls, I breed chi's and all of my girls act differently, one of them like Ellie, don't be concerned, it lookd gross and sounds gross, but it is somwhat normal, and it will pass. there's not much you can do other than distract her with trats and stuff to chew on. even girls will do this to eachother or toys when thier in heat. hope it's over for you soon.

Thanks for the feedback girls, it was all very reassuring!
Ellie is definitely coming out of heat now though I think. She is a little bit more her normal self today, and the swelling is on the decrease.
I have always had female dogs in the past but have not had one that acted quite like this. It's so out of character, the poor baby. I think we'll all be relieved when it's over.
On the plus side, I know she is working properly inside now, which is always good to know. And hopefully next March we can put her in pup! Yay!
