Hiya! As most of you will know, Ellie is in season at the moment. This is a bitter/sweet situation for us both it turns out. It is good as I have been expecting it for three months and was begining to get worried, but it is also bad as it means she is so isolated. The poor pup; she keeps on coming up to me to ask to be picked up; she'll stand on her back legs and make funny little high pitched squeaky noises and look at me all expectantly and I have to say no and not cuddle her, or let her on the bed, or the sofa as she would stain them. It is SO hard and SO horrible. I feel so far away from my baby at the moment! And the worst bit is that she is only on day five of around twenty one!
I tried cutting three holes (one for her tail and two for her back legs) in a sock so that she could wear some form of nsppy (diaper to the U.S. lot!) so I could cuddle her, but it is so tight I have only managed to put it on her once! I did take some photos of her in it but you'll have to wait for them as I am away and not using my own laptop. I have a PC and the one I'm using at the moment, til next weekend, is a MAC and I have no clue whatsoever as to how to copy and paste from Photobucket to here on this computer! Too complicated for my little brain!
Anyway, it is such hell having Ellie on heat, I cant wait til it's over! Love, Jess x
Gee, I am sorry, this is probably hard on you both. Don't they sell special diapers for female doggie in heat? I thought my breeder told me that was what she does with her female. She also told me the females are really needy during their heat.
You can purchase disposable "diapers" for females in season at the major pet stores (like Petco, Petsmart, etc.) They are adjustable for fit like on a baby and prevent any spotting on furniture, etc. Also, the spotting part of the heat will only last for about 7 to 10 days, then it stops. There are 3 phases to the season and that is only for phase one. So the bad part will soon be passed... Hang in there, girl.

Deb, I cant begin to express my relief when you said this bit only lasts for about ten days! Today is day six so hopefully we'll be hving lots and lots of cuddles again soon! Woohoo!
Unfortunately I dont think we get those doggy diapers here in the UK, although I will google it to see. It would certainly make life a lot easier! And I must admit I was surprised that nobody had come up with an idea like doggy diapers for bitches seasons! Now I know!
Anyway, thank you so, so much, you've been a great help and support! Love, Jess x
Jess, this sounds like such a difficult experience - after all, how can you not cuddle her? Especially when it's a new expereince for her too! Hang in there, sweetie!
Are you planning to breed her? I bet she'll be a beautiful mommy.
Aw, you'll get through it. That's tough, Daisy went into heat a few months ago, but she is big so she doesn't cuddle or get on the couch much anyways. But GOODLUCK!

Lin, yes I do hope to breed fcrom her, but not on this season, obviously, as it's her first. Maybe the next season in six months time, or the one after. It kind of depends on my health as I am about to start new treatment so most large activity (such as breeding pups) will be out of the question for a while. Fingers crosseed!
Hey Jess, sorry about the female woes! Poor Ellie! But I think your idea with the sock is rather cool and inventive. Sorry, I have to keep it short, $6 a hour for dial up is outrageous!
Hey Jess-It just so happens that Molly is in heat as well. We never got her spayed b/c of health reasons. We bought her a diaper from Petsmart and b/c its so small we have to cut maxi pads to fit it there. These diapers make life easier. Here's a link I found:
Awww, thank you Alison! You are a sweetheart! Funny that Molly is also in heat; I'd heard that females' cycles sometimes get in sync when they co-exist in close courters, but I've never come across it over the net!
Thank you again for the link, and thanks to evryone else who left such lovely comments and encouragement! Love, Jess x
