Flying Chihuahua (and other things)

Well... I've been accepted to college... in Toronto. So... September 5th, I'll be flying out there and moving into my wee-shoebox of an apartment down town.

The flight is booked, Corona too, and I bought an airline approved soft-sided kennel for the trip (the Sherpa Deluxe, haha), which Corona currently loves to rip the lining out of. Obvioulsy she's never flown before, but travels extremely well in the car. Does anyone have any advice, or suggestions for how to make the trip as easy as possible for her? It will be tough, since I will be stressed/excited at the time as well, but I want to do what I can for her. Oh, and she will be in the cabin with me, not in with the cargo (just to be clear).

And then... I'm thinking of training her to do her business on the balcony, on a pad or in a litter box or something... since we'll be up a few floors and I really don't want to have to be going up and down every hour to take her outside. Does that seem like an ok idea? I'm really not sure how to train her to use a box though, hmm...

Any other advice you can offer in terms of moving and living in a tiny apartment in the middle of this huge city?

Well i dont live in an apartmant butttt i have trained both my girls to use the pee-pad things u buy at the store. They learn pretty quickly. The way I taught them was u have to watch closely for signs of them needing to use the bathroom and when these signs are spotted immediatly take them to the pee-pad and (at this point its a good idea to have a harness and leash on them) keep them there for as long as it takes for them to go, or if its been like 5min and they still havnt gone u can let them just go back to doing watever.
The thing with the pee-pads from the store, as opposed to regular newspaper (other than the obvious absorbancy factor) is they are formulated to attract dogs to them, plus u can also buy this liquid drops stuff, which u put like three drops on the pee pad, that smells really bad if over used but also draws the dog to the pee-pad.
Also remember to use a pet stain remover whereever they "go" if they "go" in the wrong spot so they wont be attracted to go in the same spot again.
N E ways hope that helps. Good luck on the trip!
